Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:11.
St Paul tells us about Armis Dei – the Armour of God – we are all familiar with the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the boots of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. But when we get up in the morning do we remind ourselves that we are in battle and do we put on the Armour of God?
The enemy in this battle can manifest in different ways and forms, and Scripture tells us to be as clever as serpents, yet as gentle as doves. How do we exercise this in our current society?
After the recent WA election many Christians have asked what now? How do we properly influence politics and culture in what appears to be such a toxic political climate? How do we fight the right way, with the right tools? How do we wear the armour of God? These were the questions that lead us to the decision to hold the first WA State Conference.
We need to stay informed about the issues so when the time is right we know what the next step is. To stay above the game, and look to Christ for His leadership and direction above anything else.
Euthanasia is treading closer, and the reality of a bill passing in the not so distant future is becoming more likely. However, we are faithful that we can make a change, together we can help parliamentarians understand the importance of not allowing any bill to become law. Dr Margaret Somerville will be coming to speak on this issue. She is a Samuel Gale Professor of Law Emerita, Professor Emerita in the Faculty of Medicine, and Founding Director Emerita of the Centre for Medicine, Ethics and Law at McGill University, Montreal. She is no stranger to controversy resulting from the sensitive and divisive ethical issues of euthanasia.
Safe Schools was also a focal point of the election. We know how important it is to protect the minds of children. Our society is already saturated in sexuality, schools should be a safe haven for them, in every essence of that word.
Dr John Whitehall is a Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Western Sydney and will be speaking about sexuality and gender identity. With over 50 years of experience in research and related fields, Dr Whitehall has been raising awareness of the negative health impacts of puberty blockers, cross sex hormones and gender reassignment surgery as treatments for children with Identity Dysphoria.
Staying informed in these issues is the first step to battle, we hope you will be able to join us on Saturday 22nd to learn how we can actively be the salt and light in our society, so we can look back and say in good faith - we have fought the good fight, we have finished the race, we have kept the faith.
Conference Registration includes Lunch and morning tea so book early.
