The Australian Christian Lobby today welcomed the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s re-commitment to his election promise of holding a people's vote on redefining marriage.

ACL Managing Director Lyle Shelton said at a time when breaking election promises had become routine for politicians, Mr Turnbull deserved credit for his integrity.

“What is disappointing is that so many corporate leaders, of whom the public expects integrity, were willing to pressure the Prime Minister to compromise his.

“As we have seen through the past few days of rainbow political bullying of Coopers Beer and the Bible Society, changing the definition of marriage will change the nature of free speech in Australia.

“This is all the more reason why the people should be allowed to decide if we take this step.”
