Fly in fly out workers (FIFO) have become a surprising election issue in the crucial seat of Mackay.

Both major parties are realising the destructive nature of FIFO for families and for communities and are taking steps to reduce the practice.

The issue was raised at ACL’s local candidates forum held just weeks out from Election Day.

ALP candidate Julieanne Gilbert, Greens candidate Jonathon Dykyj and LNP candidate Deon Attard addressed the forum held in the Mackay Baptist church

After veteran Labor MP and Deputy Leader Tim Mulherin’s shock retirement as the member for Mackay the seat is now wide open.

Labor holds the seat by a margin of 0.5% and Mackay is now an important seat to watch in this crucial election campaign.

The issue of the sale or lease of assets was again a major focus of the questions and it once again provided a clear difference of positions between the two major parties.
