A country's aid budget is generally measured as a proportion of a nation's gross national income (GNI). Australia's total contribution fell to just over $3 billion in 2016, or 0.25 per cent of GNI. This is well below the average of 0.32 per cent of GNI recorded by the 29 OECD countries last year.
