Same-sex marriage activists engaging in intimidation and lawlessness should also be targeted in the Turnbull Government’s legislative crackdown on like behaviours in the trade union movement.

Australian Christian Lobby Managing Director Lyle Shelton said CFMEU boss John Setka’s publishing of the names and home addresses of Australian Building and Construction Commission inspectors was identical to what ACL directors had been subject to by a leader of the same-sex marriage movement.

In March, same-sex marriage activists published on social media the names and home addresses of ACL directors.

And following threats from same sex marriage activists the Australian Charities and Not for Profits Commission suppressed personal details of ACL and Lachlan Macquarie Institute directors in the interests of safety.

“Intimidation and threatening behaviour should be treated the same way, regardless of where it comes from.”

Mr Shelton said masked LGBTI protestors broke the law to physically block 70 people from entering an ACL event in Melbourne last month.

“We must not let threatening behaviours and lawlessness become the new normal,” Mr Shelton said.
