Independent MP for Sydney, Alex Greenwich, has consistently been responsible for some of the worst laws in New South Wales.
In 2019, Mr Greenwich introduced a bill that passed both houses later titled the Abortion Law Reform Act 2019, decriminalising abortion in the state.
In 2021, he introduced the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2021, which passed the following year, making assisted suicide accessible in NSW as of late last year.
Now, Mr Greenwich is proudly pushing the Equality Legislation Amendment Bill 2023, which makes 80+ amendments across 20+ NSW laws, including reforms that:
Decriminalise Commercial Surrogacy
The amendments to the Surrogacy Act 2010 would open the door for the exploitation of economically vulnerable women in developing countries through the commodification of their reproductive system.
Threaten Parental Rights and Child Protection
The amendments to the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 would result in the removal of a parent’s consent from their child’s decision to access medical interventions, including unevidenced and harmful sex modification procedures.
Restrict Freedom of Religion and Speech
The amendments to the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 would nullify existing protections for faith-based schools, churches and healthcare providers to maintain their religious ethos and character.
Liberalise Prostitution
The removal of ‘Part 3’ from the Summary Offences Act 1988 would decriminalise the solicitation and enactment of public acts of sex in front of churches, schools and hospitals without regulation, and even a brothel next door to your home.
Violate Women’s Only Spaces
The amendments to the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1995 would institute sex self-ID, allowing for persons to self-designate sex on their birth certificate and consequently permitting biological males to access women-only spaces, sports, and groups.
The Equality Legislation Amendment Bill 2023 is under review by the Community Services Parliamentary Committee, which will report to the NSW Parliament on the 3rd of June 2024. This is an important time for all members of Parliament to pay attention to the negative sentiment of the community toward this legislation.
Taking action today is imperative.
