Last week I was privileged to be invited to be part of a relatively small group to hear from Jordan Peterson in Federal Parliament. Amongst other profundities, he said,
“I don’t care what your view of abortion is – fewer is better. Let’s start there.”
Whilst I don’t disagree with his desire for less abortions, my starting point is different. It is found in Deuteronomy 30:19, “ This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”
Less abortions however, is not something that the Greens party desires. In fact, their ultimate goal is to make abortion even more easily and freely accessible across Australia. That means more abortions, not less.
Following the historic overturning of Roe v Wade in June in the US High Court, ending the federal constitutional right to abortion in the United States, Australian Greens Senator Larissa Waters has successfully initiated a Federal inquiry into ‘Universal access to reproductive healthcare.’ Senator Waters said,
It appears that one of the desired outcomes of this inquiry is a bigger distribution of the chemical abortion pill. The dangers of taking this drug are well documented, particularly in remote locations. It is not recommended for young women situated more than an hour from emergency care (consider Northern Territory remote communities during the wet season).
And yet, there is a push for this 2-dose abortion drug to be made more readily available – even over the phone – which opens the door for coercion by an undetected violent partner. The positive claims made for the abortion pill (RU486) are filled with myths and misconceptions.
Sadly, there are already numerous examples of women using the pills incorrectly, in some cases resulting in death.
The Senate Community Affairs References Committee is overseeing the inquiry, and it is my very sincere hope that pro-life Australians will take this opportunity to push back on what is an aggressive pro-abortion agenda.
Join me in having your say in our political process for the sake of life. There has been set before us options for life and death, blessings and curses. God says, “Now choose life , so that you and your children may live.”
You are invited to make a submission to the Senate Inquiry into Universal Access to Reproductive Healthcare by 15 December 2022. It is critical for Christians to make numerous submissions to help prevent the spread of abortion.
