The Joint Select Committee on End of Life Choices has today tabled the Chair’s pro-euthanasia report in parliament.
The Australian Christian Lobby has expressed disappointment at the obvious and transparent support for euthanasia in Ms Amber-Jade Sanderson’s report.
“The report tabled today clearly encourages the Labor government to look at introducing euthanasia legislation in Western Australia,” commented Peter Abetz, ACL’s state director.
“A minority report tabled by Hon Nick Goiran tells quite a different story, highlighting the slippery slope and dangers of euthanasia.”
“It seems ridiculous for the government to consider euthanasia legislation when the World Health Organisation estimates that 15.7% of people 60 years and older experience abuse. This would mean that at least 75,000 older West Aussies have been subjected to elder abuse.”
“The government should wait for the result from the Inquiry into Elder Abuse before making a response to this report,” said Mr Abetz.
