D’Ath’s Dirty Bomb

The last Bill introduced by Queensland Attorney General and Minister for Justice and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence, Yvette D’Ath, before announcing her retirement from politics was the Criminal Code (Decriminalising Sex Work) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024.

Queensland Director of the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL), Rob Norman said, “A dirty bomb is ‘a conventional bomb that contains radioactive material’.  Like a dirty bomb, Ms D’Ath’s legacy will be far reaching and devastating.

“The only winners in a decriminalised sex industry are the pimps and brothel owners who will prosper through the abuse and misery of the mainly young women caught in this social and economic war zone.”

Norman said, “Queensland’s housing affordability crisis, homelessness, and youth crime rate will feed a burgeoning sex industry with young people struggling to make ends meet.

“Queenslanders should remember Ms D’Ath’s legacy on October 26th when they go to the polls.”

The ACL calls on the Queensland Government to abandon its plans to increase the size of the sex industry and focus its energies on removing the drivers of the State’s youth crime crisis
