Germany Reverses Position on Decriminalised Prostitution

In an attempt to reverse their reputation as ‘Europe’s biggest brothel, Germany is considering the implementation of the Equality Model of Prostitution Law Reform after calling out the sale of sex as unacceptable and something that should be restricted.

Queensland Director of the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL), Mr Rob Norman, said today, “The German experiment in full decriminalization of prostitution has failed miserably. They now recognise that prostitution is violence against women.

Global anti-trafficking advocates were overjoyed to hear the German Chancellor recently say that the Social Democratic Party considers the purchase of women for sex unacceptable and that they are open to criminalising the purchase of sex.”

Rob Norman continued, “While Germany has learned from the mess that decriminalization of prostitution has created, Queensland’s Labor Party and Attorney General Yvette D’Ath are determined to ignore the evidence and pursue the outdated and failed full decriminalisation model which legitimises the abuse of women by entitled men”.

The ACL urges the Queensland government to listen to the evidence and the survivors and support the Equality Model. Queensland’s women and girls deserve no less..
