NSW Government’s ‘good call’ on Latham’s religious discrimination bill

The Australian Christian Lobby welcomes the appointment of an NSW Parliamentary Joint Select Committee to investigate Mark Latham MLC’s excellent religious freedom bill – the Anti-Discrimination Amendment (Religious Freedoms and Equality) Bill 2020.

“Religious Freedom is under threat, with people of faith facing increased hostility in the workplace and public life,” said Kieren Jackson, ACL NSW Director. “We also know that freedom of religion lies at the core of all human rights and freedoms.”

“It’s time that NSW prevents discrimination against people based on their religious belief or religious activities. People of faith need protections in NSW law that are equal to protections against other forms of discrimination. Mr Latham’s bill would ensure that an Israel Folau, or anyone else, does not get sacked for an Instagram post.

“We look forward to highlighting for the Committee the many real stories of religious discrimination that are experienced in the community.”
