NT Gender Treatments Not Fit For Purpose

Leaked files from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) show that gender transitioning treatments used in the Northern Territory are not fit for purpose.

Northern Territory State Director of the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL), Nicholas Lay, said, “It is a shocking revelation that this “trusted” global organisation (WPATH), used by Australian gender clinics to set standards of care and ethical guidelines, has been found to be violating ’medical ethics and informed consent’.”

Investigative Journalist, Michael Shellenberger, pointed out the lack of credibility of WPATH, saying, “The WPATH Files show that what is called ‘gender medicine’ is neither science nor medicine.”

Nicholas Lay continued, “The 250 pages of leaked WPATH messages have exposed the ugly truth that health professionals are aware of life-long irreversible harms caused by puberty blockers and hormonal therapy, including carcinogenic risks, yet continue on the path of hormonal gender treatments to gender transition children.

“The health and wellbeing of too many children has been sacrificed in this experimental project, as ideologically driven health professionals use outdated treatments on children whilst knowing they are unable to quantify the life-long physical and psychological harms.”

It is sadly ironic that this revelation coincides with the UK banning all children from receiving puberty blockers. Wendy Francis, National Director of Politics for the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL), said, “This landmark decision follows a very considered UK government approach including an independent review of gender services for children under 18 as well as a transparent public consultation on the issue.

“The expert review revealed the shocking lack of long-term evidence on what happens to young people who are prescribed blockers, stating that it was ‘not possible to accurately track the outcomes and pathways that children and young people take through the service’.

The ACL calls for the Northern Territory to follow the UK’s lead in protecting our children from harm by immediatelysuspending all gender transition treatments and initiating an inquiry into best practices for Territorians experiencing gender dysphoria.
