Damning evidence against relaxed prostitution laws

As the Queensland Government prepares to decriminalise prostitution, a declassified report released by the Australian Federal Police has revealed a clear correlation between increasingly relaxed prostitution laws and offences taking place in the Sex Industry.

Queensland Political Director for the Australian Christian Lobby, Rob Norman said, “In the five years to 2022, Commonwealth offences occurring in the Sex Industry have increased by 80 percent. Forced marriage, human trafficking (including child trafficking), sexual exploitation, and slavery were high on the list of offences within the Sex industry.

Decriminalising the pimps and crime bosses behind prostitution enables sex offenders, human traffickers, and those profiteering from human misery to operate with impunity. The Queensland Parliament should adopt the world-leading Equality or Nordic Model of prostitution which protects the victims of prostitution and prosecutes the pimps and exploiters of women.

The ACL calls on the Queensland Government to heed the AFP report, abandon its plans for full decriminalisation, and adopt the Equality or Nordic model of prostitution reform.
