Queensland Labor Blinded by Ideology

The suspension of a Victorian obstetrician and gynaecologist who performed a surgical abortion on a patient who later died in recovery should have been a wakeup call for the Miles Queensland Labor Government which recently rushed legislation through the Parliament to authorise nurses and midwifes in administering deadly abortion pills.

Rob Norman, Queensland Director for the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL), said, “No abortion should be treated as a routine procedure, particularly in rural and remote areas of the State where emergency healthcare is scarce.

“We know that around 5% of women who undergo medical abortions will have complications, some of these are life threatening.”

Mr. Norman went on to say, “It seems that Ideology, rather than best practice medical care, was the driver for Labor’s Bill. This is a government facing an election wipeout and yet it seems hellbent on rushing its radical social agenda though at every opportunity.”

The ACL calls on Queensland Labor to rethink its push to further liberalise abortion and prostitution legislation which have serious consequences for women’s health and safety.
