Tasmanian Government gets it right on new child sex offence laws

The Tasmanian Liberal Government should be congratulated for accurately reflecting community abhorrence for sexual offenses against children in its new bill which introduces presumptive minimum penalties for such offenses.

Christopher Brohier, the Tasmanian State Director of the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) said today, “Sexual offences against a child are the most abhorrent of sexual offences, all of which are diabolical crimes against humanity. At a time when many are attempting to soften community attitudes to sex offenders against children by use of terms like ‘minor attracted persons’ and are even likening this abhorrent conduct to a sexual orientation, the Tasmanian Liberal Government has got it right in indicating by this Bill that sex offenses against children will not be tolerated.”

The ACL calls on the Tasmanian Parliament to pass the Bill quickly.
