Fresh push for Zoe’s Law welcomed

The Australian Christian Lobby welcomes a recent statement by the Hon Fred Nile MLC that he will push for time to debate and vote on his bill named Zoe’s Law, which will establish a separate offence for conduct causing serious harm, or death to an unborn child.

This comes after a recent tragic car accident in which a teenage driver and her passenger Katherine Hoang, along with her unborn twin boys, were killed by another driver. The driver at fault was charged with the death of the two women, but not for the deaths of the boys.

“I am sure that everyone who has heard the tragic story of the recent accident would instantly recognise the injustice of the current law which means that not all the deaths were recognised,” said Kieren Jackson, NSW Director of the Australian Christian Lobby.

“The law needs to change, and Rev Nile’s bill is a chance to do that. It has our support and the support of many people in the community.”

“There is time before the end of the year for the NSW Parliament to fix this gap in the law and pass this bill. The Australian Christian Lobby calls on the Government to ensure the criminal code recognises the lives of these unborn children,” said Mr Jackson.
