New QLD Revenge Porn Laws A Step In The Right Direction

The Australian Christian Lobby has congratulated the Queensland parliament for passing revenge porn laws that will strengthen the pathway for justice for those who have been harmed by their private images being circulated without their consent.

Wendy Francis, ACL’s state director said, “The legislation passed by the government is a step in the right direction. However, what we need to see is recognition that all pornography is harmful and is causing a massive health issue for our younger generation.”

“Our society has reached a tipping point with pornography, with evidence on the harms that it brings piling up.”

Research shows that porn is a health issue for a number of reasons. It is dangerous to the watcher, with porn being considered similar to cocaine or heroin in terms of its addictive effects. It is exploitative, particularly of women and children and eroticises violence towards women.

“The porn industry is massively impacting the sexual and emotional well-being of our culture,” warns Mrs Francis. “This new law is a good start, but there is a long way to go.”

The Australian Christian Lobby will continue to call on the government to recognised pornography as a health risk.
