The Australian Christian Lobby said today that the news in the Advertiser on Monday 4 July that men are buying girls in state care for sex means that the law in this area must be urgently reviewed and changed.
Christopher Brohier, ACL’s South Australia Director said “The alleged acts are so predatory and evil that the law in relation to the buying of sex must be changed. It is time to criminalise the buying of sex in South Australia. The problem revealed by the Advertiser is more a problem of the conduct of disgraceful men than anything else.
“South Australia needs a change of culture. The SA Parliament should lead the way by criminalising the buying of sex and third party profiteering, while decriminalising the selling of sex. This is the Equality or Nordic Model of prostitution law reform. Implementation of this model will send a message that women and girls should not be bought for male pleasure and will lead the way in a cultural change which in turn will help stop the abhorrent conduct revealed by the Advertiser.”
The ACL calls on the SA Parliament to act swiftly to enact the Equality Model of prostitution law reform.
