The Australian Christian Lobby has been warning that brothels do not protect vulnerable women and children. The Melbourne Magistrates Court heard evidence on Friday of a 16 year old child allegedly prostituted in Heidelberg for $100, highlighting the depraved depths some brothels will go.
“Brothel owners and operators will push the boundaries to please and lure customers. Obviously, decriminalising prostitution is not the answer,” ACL spokesperson Jasmine Yuen said.
“The Nordic reform approach to prostitution targets those that buy sex, reducing demand – as the Nordic and other evidence shows. ACL recently added to the testimony of others supporting the Nordic model at the Andrews government’s Sex Work Review.
“A Nordic-driven reduction in demand will put an end to human trafficking and enable sex workers to safely exit the industry.”
