A recent YouGov Galaxy poll reveals members of parliament who vote in favour of Jackie Trad’s radical abortion bill could lose 39% of their vote at the next election.
“The poll shows a majority of Queenslanders believe an abortion involves the taking of a human life,” said Wendy Francis, the Australian Christian Lobby’s state director.
“It also shows that 62% believe an unborn baby at 23 weeks is a human being with human rights. This belief coincides with recent international research which revealed that by 20 weeks – if not earlier an unborn child is capable of experiencing pain."
“MPs would do well to be aware of the beliefs their voters hold and take them into consideration when voting on Jackie Trad’s radical abortion crusade,” commented Mrs Francis.
The Australian Christian Lobby will continue to lobby members to vote against the bill which will essentially allow unborn children to be aborted to full term.
UWA Cancels Van Meter Transgender Speech
After yesterday promising to hold the event it is disappointing to hear the University of WA has now cancelled Dr Quentin Van Meter’s speech, said the Australian Christian Lobby.
Dr Van Meter is an American paediatric endocrinologist expert who believes the transgender movement is based on ideology rather than science.
ACL’s state director Peter Abetz said; “It’s a sad fact that we now live in a world where universities are denying free speech and opinion.”
“Universities were a place of robust debate and open discussion, now they just pander to offended people who cannot engage with those who hold conflicting ideas.”
“Dr Van Meter is an international expert on transgenderism who should be allowed the freedom to speak just like anyone else,” commented Mr Abetz.
The Australian Christian Lobby urges UWA to reinstate the event and uphold the inherent freedoms of speech and opinion.
Euthanasia defeat in Senate calls for congratulations
The Australian Christian Lobby has thanked all the senators who voted to preserve the dignity of life in tonight’s euthanasia vote.
Martyn Iles, managing director of the ACL said, “It is great to hear that the senate has upheld the dignity of life for all Australians.
“We know from international experiences that euthanasia is a slippery slope which leads to cases like in Belgium recently where a nine-year-old with a brain tumour and an eleven-year-old with cystic fibrosis were euthanised.
“The inherent value of every life must continue to be maintained. Australia must not become the kind of society where some lives where considered worthier of life than others.”
The Australian Christian Lobby is optimistic that this decision in favour of life will positively influence the state debates on this issue.
